News, Thanks for the plug. I might get to 1,000 views now. ;) This is an introduction of Meyer's book to what might be called a specialty audience. Most of what I do is create a "Reader's Digest" edition of the book, with a discussion afterwards. SelvaRajan,
I notice that the video is by Dr. Paul Giem. Hope he has turned away from YEC to old Earth, because to Darwin’s Doubt requires you to believe in 4.5 billion years old Earth.
It is true that Steve Meyer personally believes in an old earth, and more to the point old life on earth. However, what Darwin's Doubt shows is that even if one assumes an old age for life on earth, neo-Darwinism, and other materialistic approaches, do not presently solve the problem of information, and there is no particular reason other than faith in materialism to believe that they will do so in the future. Presenting Meyer's argument without constantly giving caveats regarding the age is giving them the benefit of the doubt, which is only fair when evaluating their arguments. It is not necessarily agreeing with everything Meyer says. There is a subtle difference you miss, SelvaRajan, between the statement "Darwin's Doubt assumes, and Steve Meyer believes in, a 4.5 billion year old Earth [and life on earth]", and the statement "Darwin’s Doubt requires you to believe in 4.5 billion years old Earth [and life on earth]." When we get done formally going through the book, I plan to look at the argument from design, rather than simply the argument to design. Some of your questions may be answered then. I also plan to review some of the reviews of the book, and try to get to the evidence behind the core issues. I hope others will find the effort useful.Paul Giem

OT: Forcing bacteria to 'evolve' turns helpful bacteria into pathogenic bacteria: From friend to foe: How benign bacteria evolve to virulent pathogens, December 12, 2013 Excerpt: "Bacteria can evolve rapidly to adapt to environmental change. When the "environment" is the immune response of an infected host, this evolution can turn harmless bacteria into life-threatening pathogens. ...It is thought that many strains of E. coli that cause disease in humans evolved from commensal strains." http://medicalxpress.com/news/2013-12-friend-foe-benign-bacteria-evolve.htmlbornagain77

Scientists discover double meaning in genetic code - December 12, 2013 Excerpt: Since the genetic code was deciphered in the 1960s, scientists have assumed that it was used exclusively to write information about proteins. UW scientists were stunned to discover that genomes use the genetic code to write two separate languages. One describes how proteins are made, and the other instructs the cell on how genes are controlled. One language is written on top of the other, which is why the second language remained hidden for so long. “For over 40 years we have assumed that DNA changes affecting the genetic code solely impact how proteins are made,” said Stamatoyannopoulos. “Now we know that this basic assumption about reading the human genome missed half of the picture. These new findings highlight that DNA is an incredibly powerful information storage device The genetic code uses a 64-letter alphabet called codons. The UW team discovered that some codons, which they called duons, can have two meanings, one related to protein sequence, and one related to gene control,,, The gene control instructions appear to help stabilize certain beneficial features of proteins and how they are made.,,, “The fact that the genetic code can simultaneously write two kinds of information means that many DNA changes that appear to alter protein sequences may actually cause disease by disrupting gene control programs or even both mechanisms simultaneously,” said Stamatoyannopoulos. http://www.washington.edu/news/2013/12/12/scientists-discover-double-meaning-in-genetic-code/bornagain77
