File:Multiverse - level II.svg … whether he himself accepts them or not?

Don McLeroy of College Station, Texas, muses on Neil Degrasse Tyson’s Cosmos:

In the opening episode of Cosmos: a Spacetime Odyssey, Neil deGrasse Tyson presents an incredibly clear and powerful description of the scientific process. He claims that if you “accept these terms, the Cosmos is yours.” I accept!

These terms, Tyson explains, are just a “simple set of rules.

Test ideas by experiment and observation.

Build on those ideas that pass the test.

Reject the ones that fail.

Follow the evidence wherever it leads, and

Question everything.

More.

The trouble starts when one subjects much of what passes for cosmology today, as promoted by Tyson, to those terms – as McLeroy (and some others of us) would note.

Today’s naturalist does not want to question everything. He doesn’t want to question anything, actually. He just wants to hear naturalist accounts of everything, and, to judge for what passes the smell test these days, he doesnot even care if it makes sense most of the time.
