The world has been cooling, not warming, for 2,000 years.  Not that the facts will change the minds of the religious zealots pushing global warming hysteria.

El Presidente, Who's the ignoramus? Barry or the German Researcher? Your grammar is ambiguous. In any case, the evidence that the world is heating up is solid. For the last 400,000 years CO2 vascillated between 180 and 280 ppm. In the last 100 years it has shot up to 380 ppm. Coincidentally, humans released tons of carbon into the atmosphere in the last 100 years. The oceans will rise and will destroy trillions of dollars of manufactured goods seeing as 8 or 17 of the world's largest cities lie on the coast. I support ID but our general rejection of Global Warming makes us look like cranks. This is something we in the ID community need to be ashamed of.noam_ghish

From the article linked to by the OP: German researchers used data from tree rings – a key indicator of past climate – to claim the world has been on a ‘long-term cooling trend’ for two millennia until the global warming of the twentieth century. "until the global warming of the twentieth century". Ignorance and cognitive dissonance on grand display. Just another ignoramus promoting science denial.elpresidente

Barry, Do you know the reputation of The Daily Mail? I'd be very, very cautious before using one of their stories as support for you point of view.Jerad

"Sock puppet?" Yes; but unfortunately, not a very clever one. I think we should hold sock puppets to a standard here: be entertaining, or be on your way. Clever mockery is an art, to which our little prince does not apparently aspire.Chance Ratcliff

not a fan of this kind of language. When it comes to evolution I find it appropriate because of how those who dissent are treated even though what the evolutionists believe is demonstrably retarded. That pisses me off and they deserve all the insults they get for putting others down for not accepting their crazy myth. Now this, not as certain and I think it better to be more respectful.tembew

I think I'll wait for the published research before assuming that this has any bearing upon the greenhouse effects of carbon emissions on climate.Daniel King

The graph in that article is insufficient to handle the heavy lifting being asked of it. Look how noisy the actual data is (grayish blue high-frequency stuff). There's no explanation of and no justification for the smoothing technique used to get the white line. I assume a least-squares objective function was used to fit the linear model (dashed red line). But there was no justification given for assuming a linear model. And, was this model fitting done with the smoothed white line or with the actual data? Finally, it appears that the red dashed line stops 100 years short of the data. Did the authors simply omit that data? What would the least-squares linear model look like if that data were included? I'll bet if a time-based average (area under the curve divided by time) of the actual data (*all* the data) were calculated, it would show that temperatures in the last 60 years are *warmer* than that average.cantor

Sock puppet? (Almost certainly so -- the projected parodies are fairly blatant, rather reminiscent of the recent case where Heartland meeting memos were allegedly leaked. if you are, understand just how much you are being ruled by prejudices and projections and get a reality check. I suggest WUWT as a corrective. If you are not (not likely), please, do some serious attitude adjustments.)kairosfocus

The scientific materialist elite who dominate the media and academia say there's global WARMING... but real science shows there's global COOLING... *Snicker* Further evidence of the moral bankruptcy of the evolutionary materialist elite. The REAL science described in the paper shows that the Earth COOLED at a rate of 0.3 degrees C per millenium, up until about the year 1900. So we can expect that this trend will subtract 0.03 degrees Celsius from Earth's temperature in the coming century! Ha ha! That's a reduction of 0.05 degrees Fahrenheit, per century! So much for the materialistic fanatic "scientists" with their databases of "observations" and "measurements" and their fancy "math" who projected so-called "greenhouse gases" will increase so-called "temperature" by 5 degrees Fahrenheit in the next "century"! Buh-bye, 5 degree F increase *Snicker*. So sorry, Soviet central planners of the atheist Darwinist elite! We're subtracting 0.05 degrees Fahrenheit from your atheistic worldview, and there's nothing you can do about it. And look, look at the squiggly graph of the climate trend for the last 2000 years, the graph in the linked article. Notice how the temperature only starts to increase about the year 1900? 1900-- the very time that society's elites abandoned traditional Christian values and converted to evolutionary-materialistic philosophy! Oh, like I'm sure THAT'S a coincidence! *snicker* Coincidence? Or the beginning of the atheist evo-materialist fraud? Intelligent Design is real science. "Global warming" and "computer models" and "temperature" are believed on faith. And faith is all you have. Dear pagan environmentalist tree-huggers: Go flush your database of "observations" and "math equations" down the toilet. Meanwhile, I'm going to go fire up my high-lead coal-fired grill and cook me some baby penguin. And there's nothing you liberals can do about it.Prince of Eternity
