Readers will likely recall that Steve Meyer is that author of Signature in the Cell and Darwin’s Doubt.

As it happens, an enterprising troll has decided to put up a number of fake Steve Meyer pages. I guess that is what some do when they run out of arguments before they run out of rent money.

Anyway, News got a note from someone at Meyer’s workplace, Discovery Institute, advising,

FYI – Steve Meyer has a personal profile page on Facebook that is real. The URL ends with the numbers 9887. I think this is the one Timothy Kershner was mentioning. Can you inform him that this is Steve’s REAL profile?

We are maintaining this real personal profile as evidence when other fake profiles pop up.

He also notes that there is also a real Facebook page available for those who wish to follow his work here.

He asked News to let him know about further fake profiles, and readers can kindly notify us in the combox.

Wow a numbers game. You do that so well here, usually concerning coin flips and orders of statistical improbabilities around the 10 to the Nth power against. Perhaps instead of looking at numbers killed you should try to analyse the psychological havoc created by religions which leave young people in moats of guilt simply for doing the very natural thing of pleasuring themselves. I mean seriously hell and masturbation are linked? Of all the lasting damage religion has caused I would personally say guilt, over purported misdemeanors against tediously archaic psudo-laws is the most destructive. I'm an atheist, and apart from some schoolboy theft have a very clear moral compass. If you went to a prison in any state and asked for believers to step forward, you would be overwhelmed. The prisons are full of believers, the atheists prefer to follow the rules of the enlightenment and leave believers to crime, self loathing, and shame.rvb8_{December 13, 2014

It does feel right. Nobody cares about a fake website. But put up a fake Facebook page and it attracts all the true believers. Nobody cares about a wandering minstrel telling stories of fairy princesses. But put that same minstrel in a tenured position with Ph.D. after his name and the same stories are The Most Well-Supported Theory in the History of the Universe. To that I'll salute the power of the Book of the Face. I realize that fake Facebook pages constitute an international crisis, but it's kind of embarrassing that Dr. Meyer has to scout and report on them.Silver Asiatic_{December 11, 2014
