At Not Even Wrong (August 18, 2011), skeptical mathematician Peter Woit advises, in “String Theorists Suggest Space Wormholes Possible” that

… the mention of wormholes in a popular science book, TV program, etc., indicates that real science is not what’s being discussed.

Sure enough, he got back to his office and USA Today was giving the wormholes space. But hey, as Woit says, everything is possible in string theory.
