In a previous thread I summarized geneticist Jeff Tomkins findings that demonstrates human DNA is not 98% similar to chimps but more on the order of 70% (and even that is a generous estimate). Tomkins has a book out that goes into the details I sketched out here.

Hope he gets good results from his book in readers and attention etc. Yet it still bumps into a wrong idea from a YEC point of view. We do have the ape body. We are not descended from it but we have a almost exact copy. We are not of nature like the rest of biology but special beings. We are made in Gods image and so its impossible to have our own body if it means it represents our identity. So gOd just gave us the best type of body on earth. The ape one. It could only be this way. Therefore finding us 98 or 99 or 71% is irrelevant . In fact it hints that people need a great DNA difference to swat away any claims of being a primate by common descent. In fact we should embrace our likeness to apes as evidence of a creator.Robert Byers
