Pearl Jam – Do The Evolution: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Sm3trB1fe4.

Contrast this with the following music video. You think evolution might be less of a force in this singer’s life?

Five For Fighting – The Riddle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rE9KjXGVl3c.

Another evolution music vid (not completely right on the mya-counter, but heey): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_4EYmUDxuAasm82

And, most curiously, why do these “humanity is corrupt and hopeless” types never, ever illustrate their thesis with scenes from Soviet gulags or Mao’s Great Leap Forward????
Interesting question! I guess that they want to pass the message that capitalism ALONE is responsible for all man's evils. AS IF! We should see music, movies and all media info with a grain of salt. Everyone is working for someone, so we might aswell try to see who is a given news outlet working for. Another interesting point is that the video rightfully realizes that, if evolution is true, death wins!Mats

THE RIDDLE Five for Fighting There was a man back in '95 Whose heart ran out of summers But before he died, I asked him Wait, what's the sense in life Come over me, Come over me He said, "Son why you got to sing that tune Catch a Dylan song or some eclipse of the moon Let an angel swing and make you swoon Then you will see... You will see." Then he said, "Here's a riddle for you Find the Answer There's a reason for the world You and I..." Picked up my kid from school today Did you learn anything cause in the world today You can't live in a castle far away Now talk to me, come talk to me He said, "Dad I'm big but we're smaller than small In the scheme of things, well we're nothing at all Still every mother's child sings a lonely song So play with me, come play with me" And Hey Dad Here's a riddle for you Find the Answer There's a reason for the world You and I... I said, "Son for all I've told you When you get right down to the Reason for the world... Who am I?" There are secrets that we still have left to find There have been mysteries from the beginning of time There are answers we're not wise enough to see He said... You looking for a clue I Love You free... The batter swings and the summer flies As I look into my angel's eyes A song plays on while the moon is hiding over me Something comes over me I guess we're big and I guess we're small If you think about it man you know we got it all Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball And I love you free I love you freely Here's a riddle for you Find the Answer There's a reason for the world You and I...tribune7

Now, that's a contrast: Pearl Jam Do the Evolution Woo.. I'm ahead, I'm a man I'm the first mammal to wear pants, yeah I'm at peace with my lust I can kill 'cause in God I trust, yeah It's evolution, baby I'm at piece, I’m the man Buying stocks on the day of the crash On the loose, I'm a truck All the rolling hills, I’ll flatten’ em out, yeah It's herd behavior, uh huh It's evolution, baby Admire me, admire my home Admire my song, here's my coat Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah This land is mine, this land is free I'll do what I want but irresponsibly It's evolution, baby I'm a thief, I'm a liar There's my church, I sing in the choir: (hallelujah… hallelujah…) Admire me, admire my home Admire my song, admire my clothes 'Cause we know, appetite for a nightly feast Those ignorant Indians got nothin' on me Nothin', why? Because, it's evolution, baby! I am ahead, I am advanced I am the first mammal to make plans, yeah I crawled the earth, but now I'm higher Twenty-ten, watch it go to fire It's evolution, baby (2X) Do the evolution Come on, come on, come ontribune7

"Do the Evolution!" Does that imply to some extend that humans are actually responsible for the IDEA of evolution, meaning that evolution needs to be done. That it is, in the end, not a natural thing but human driven? Or does the PJ video insist to continue to "do evolution" (as shown in the video). I think, personally, we should stop doing evolution, a dangerous idea of meaningless destruction of humankind. We can't help but to leave it to arbitrariness. Love the other song :)tb

Scott: "LOVE that pro-ID song by Five For Fighting!" Sorry, but I don't think a clear reading of the lyrics justifies your stance. Certainly the child has questions about the meaning of their existence centered on what he learned in science. Dad I'm big but we're smaller than small In the scheme of things, well we're nothing at all The father doesn't dispute the facts; but indicates (unlike ID) that the answers are unknown and probably unknowable. There are secrets that we still have left to find There have been mysteries from the beginning of time There are answers we're not wise enough to see He affirms the science, I guess we're big and I guess we're small And provide a practical everyday answer. Cause we're all we got on this bouncing ball And I love you free I love you freely That it is their relationship to one another that gives meaning to their lives. Hardly a claim that there is scientific evidence of Intelligent Design in biology. On the other hand, as valid an answer as any that actually addresses the child's concerns.Zachriel

I hope I'm not too much off-topic, but... I'm not sure if you're familiar with one of the Europe's most prestigious song contests - it's called Eurovision (http://www.eurovision.tv/)... It was the place where legends were born, like ABBA, Julio Iglesias, Celine Dion, etc... It used to be a delight for those who love good music, sung from the hearts.... Do you know who won this year ?... "Lordi"... Yeah, those creepy guys... With the song "Hard Rock Hallelujah" (http://www.lordi.fi/main.site?action=siteupdate/view&id=34) So, maybe evolution theory is not directly responsible for this, but for sure our human values are changing… Rolling downhill, IMHO…Sladjo

most of the so-called social criticism in contemporary music is window dressing to provide a spurious legitimacy to the ego-worship of the bands/leader enjoy from themselves and others.tinabrewer

Questions raised by the video What's the anime chick supposed to represent? Why do rich rock and roll types hate the human race? Why do the Nazis have some sort of Z instead of a swastika? And, most curiously, why do these "humanity is corrupt and hopeless" types never, ever illustrate their thesis with scenes from Soviet gulags or Mao's Great Leap Forward????tribune7

Ah Eddie Vedder, The most confused post-grunge rockstar around. He was interviewed one time and was asked how the country, with its varying political viewpoints, can finally become cohesive again. He responded with something along the line of, "we should all sit down, set our differences on the table, be accepting and work from there".... pretty nice, timid response. Right after that they play one of his songs in which the chorus is along the lines of 'George Bush and Jerry Faldwell should leave the country because we don't see eye to eye' (those aren't the exact lyrics, but that's the point he was getting across. Then he was being interviewed some more and started babbling about truth being relative; oddly enough he was saying that as if he were right.Doug

I'm not big into rock and metal; so, have patience with me when I say that I don't get it. What was the point? Was it trying to say that evil things happen because we're all in a struggle for survival, the way it has always been?Ryan
