Denton Bible Church, in Denton, TX, will be hosting the “2010 On Guard Christian Apologetics Conference” on November the 5th and 6th.

Denton Bible Church is delighted to bring a powerhouse group of speakers to the Dallas/Fort Worth/Denton area for this year’s apologetics conference entitled, “On Guard: Defending Your Faith with Reason and Precision.” The name of this year’s conference is taken from the title of one of William Lane Craig’s newest books addressing the subject of apologetics in the local church. We have invited some of the greatest defenders of the Christian faith to speak at this year’s conference on a wide variety of subjects including the historical reliability of the New Testament, the evidence for the resurrection, scientific challenges to the theory of Evolution, and the battle of Worldviews.

Speakers include William Lane Craig, J. P. Moreland, Sean McDowell, Paul Nelson (whose address is titled “The Power and Promise of Intelligent Design in Biology”), Mike Licona, Craig Hazen,  and others.

The schedule of speakers:

Friday Evening, November 5, 2010 – 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM

7:00-8:15 PM – Multiple Speakers, “Defending Your Faith Kick-Off”

In a kind of tag-team opening session several of our Conference speakers will address the biblical and practical imperative of explaining and defending the Christian message as we  engage our culture with the truths of the Bible and the Christian worldview. The Bible exhorts us as Christians to “contend for the faith” (Jude 3), to “guard the treasure” (2 Tim. 1:14), to “make a defense” of Gospel truths (1 Peter 3:15) and to “destroy speculations” raised up against the knowledge of God (2 Cor. 10:5). Our speakers will tell us how to do this and why we must do this.

8:15-8:30 PM – Break

8:30-9:30 PM – Dr. Paul Nelson, “The Power and Promise of Intelligent Design in Biology”

Does Darwin’s theory of Evolution adequately account for the origin and diversity of life on earth? Can the blind force of natural selection explain the difference between a bacterium and a human being? Or is there evidence—real scientific evidence—that an intelligent designer is behind the diversity and complexity of life? Dr. Paul Nelson persuasively argues that Darwin’s theory of evolution fails to adequately account for what we know about biological life. He further argues that Intelligent Design provides far superior explanations for the complexity and diversity of the life in, “The Power and Promise of Intelligent Design in Biology.”

Saturday, November 6, 2010 – 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM

8:30-9:30 AM – Dr. Craig Hazen, “Did Jesus Really Rise from the Dead?”

The defining truth of Christianity is that a first century Jew named Jesus Christ—whom the Bible affirms as God incarnate—lived a perfect life, died a cruel death on a cross and rose from the dead three days later. But is this really true? In a modern, scientific age is this defensible? What are the logical proofs for this genuinely miraculous event? In “Did Jesus really Rise from the Dead” Dr. Craig Hazen brings his expertise to bear on the objective case for the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

9:30-9:40 AM – Break

9:40-10:40 AM – Sean McDowell, “Equipping Young People with a Biblical Worldview”

The Bible lays down the fundamental beliefs about the world by which Christians are to live and view the whole of reality. In short we are to view the world through the lens of scripture and to live according to a biblical worldview. In his session, “Equipping Young People with a Biblical Worldview,” Sean McDowell will show us how parents and the church can effectively instill within young people a genuinely biblical worldview.

10:40-11:00 AM – Break

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Dr. J.P. Moreland, “The War of Worldviews”

Jesus said to his disciples, “I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.” Christians ever since have acknowledged that there exists a fundamental conflict between the biblical worldview and the worldviews of humanism, secularism and the diversity of false religions throughout the world. Dr. J. P. Moreland highlights the reality and intensity of this battle and how Christians can confidently engage the world with the biblical worldview armed with a bold faith and effective reason in, “The War of Worldviews.”

12:00-1:30 PM – Break/Lunch

1:30-2:30 PM – Dr. Mike Licona, “Can We Really Trust the Gospels”

Judging by a number of recent best-selling books the Bible is clearly under attack. Many are challenging the Bible as unhistorical, unreliable and even immoral. But should a reasonable person trust the Bible? Is there any evidence that the Bible can be trusted as a document that accurately and dependably communicates God’s will on the ultimate issues of life? In “Can the Gospels be Trusted” Dr. Mike Licona demonstrates that the Gospels in particular can be trusted as accurate historical documents that faithfully record the words and works of Jesus Christ.

2:30-2:40 PM – Break

2:40-4:00 PM – Dr. William Lane Craig, “The Case for the Existence of God”

The Bible begins with the assertion—some would say assumption—“In the beginning God . . . .” Many would argue that there is no more fundamental proposition for a human being to consider than the existence of God. Yet in our age of skepticism this most basic of assertions is increasingly challenged with ever more boldness and stridency. Philosopher and apologist Dr. William Lane Craig engages the arguments of the skeptics with  persuasive reason and logic in, “The Case for the Existence of God.”

i am a biblical creationist and wish and pray for great success and world changing direction from this conference. My gang of YEC is a whee bit hostile to because genesis is not accepted. yet allies in common causes can ignore other important disagreements. Each gangs success helps the other. YEC should embrace and participate . Creationism is the new hip advocacy for better ideas in origins and general science. Plus the icing of being aggressively , even maliciously, attacked jusy like all former prestiges causes that advance mankind. A great movie and great characters. ,Robert Byers

On guard? That's fun because it is part of my own country's (my home and native land's) national anthem - to which I would flee in any danger.) But, as an elder once patiently explained to me, if I get gunned down on the tarmac in a foreign land, a little bit of that place becomes us, now and always.O'Leary
