I’m quite simply astounded by the naked, vitriolic, savage hostility generated by this mild and gentle appeal NOT to hate religious people.

1. Lord Buddha

2. The Mennonites

3. The author of The God Delusion.

Richard Dawkins’s followers, who clearly understand him better than he does himself, correct him in the tweets that follow.

Who out there considers him(her)self to be without religion? Anyone raising his(her) hand is either ignorant or less than honest – there is no third alternative. Everyone – that’s EVERYONE – is religious.
Totally agree. Religion is just another word for "worldview". Everyone has beliefs. Everyone has a worldview which may or may not include some type of supernatural figure. But regardless, we all have a worldview/beliefs that we cannot prove, but take by faith, atheists included. Worldview questions include Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? Where am I going(after death)? Is there a God? etc. Humanism and or Materialism/Naturalism qualifies as such a worldview/religion just as much as Christianity or Islam.tjguy

sussman @7, If you are an atheist, you are a religious person just like the rest of them, whether you like it or not. There is no such thing as not being religious. Any world view is a religion. For example, if you believe there is a world out there in front of you, that makes you a hardcore religious person. Descartes went over this centuries ago. In the end, he could only conclude: "I think, therefore I am." And this, too, is a religion.Mapou

Let me correct that for Squawkins: "[The jumbled useless reactions in my 3 pound meat have left me, as an illusory and delusional meatbag of senselessness,] quite simply astounded by the naked, vitriolic, savage hostility generated by this mild and gentle appeal NOT to hate [non-Atheopathic] religious people ." Squawkins should look into applying for a ministerial position, this church is in need of some. The crazier the better. Also, as Squawkins is already a horseman of Atheism, I'm sure it'd be their pleasure. They may require that he read the 10 Commandments of Atheism though.Vy

Those who hate religions are the most religious of them all, denials notwithstanding. And they are equally, if not more, violent than the other religions. If any religion has to go, theirs should be the first in line for annihilation.Mapou

"Religious people" : I'll kick this dog every time I see it! Who out there considers him(her)self to be without religion? Anyone raising his(her) hand is either ignorant or less than honest - there is no third alternative. Everyone - that's EVERYONE - is religious. The only question is, what religion do they practice? Dawkins, for example, practices a form of two recognized religions: Humanism and Atheism. So when he speaks of "hating religious people", is he speaking of hating himself? Of course not. What he means - what most of these cartoon characters mean - is hating any OTHER religion that does not bow to theirs. Boy would I love to be in the same room with Dawkins for an hour or two. Somebody needs to teach that silly child a lesson!!Jorge
